Elephants are incredible creatures and the beautiful Mosha is testament to that! Mosha has lived on a National Reserve in Thailand since she was seven months old after having been a victim of a landmine which sadly resulted in her living with three legs. Now nine years old, Mosha has recently been fitted with her fifth prosthetic leg and she shows a new limp on life!

Meet Wooky, an adorable 3.5 year old Poodle cross who just adores going to the beach for a swim and a run. Recently, on one of Wooky’s beach visits her owner noticed her having trouble urinating and also saw a little bit of blood passing in her urine. Wooky was taken to visit the Greencross Vets Lambton team where a urine test was done to identify the problem. Upon examination of the urine sample, Dr Tessa found blood and proteine in the urine which can indicate a bladder stone. An x-ray confirmed that Wooky did in-fact have a large bladder stone. Dr Tessa performed surgery on Wooky to remove the bladder stone and after a quick recovery, both Wooky and her owner were delighted to be back enjoying the beach life in Newcastle just 14 days after surgery!

Bladder stones can cause an obstruction to the outflow of urine making your pet strain without passing urine. They can also cause trauma to the lining of the bladder or urethra resulting in production of bloody urine. When there is an obstruction the bladder cannot empty and this is very painful for our pets. If your pet is showing signs of having trouble urinating or you spot blood in their urine, be sure to contact your local vet, just like Wooky’s owner did.
